Senegal are not just topping the group for nothing, these West Africans arrived at the competition breathing fire, after mercilessly whipping DR Congo 4-0 in their opening match.
That statement victory not only gave them three solid points, but also sent a warning to every team in the group.
Meanwhile, the Copper Queens had to settle for a point in their first match after drawing 2-2 with hosts, Morocco in a tense and energy-draining game which left fans both proud and frustrated.
With Senegal seated at the summit with 3 points, Zambia and Morocco trailing with a point each, and DR Congo stranded at the bottom with nothing but bruises, today’s clash between Zambia and Senegal is a war for the number one spot.
A victory for the Copper Queens would push them to four points and see them take over the top spot, while a defeat would leave them in a tricky position going into their final group match.
But it will not be an easy ride as Senegal has shown they are no pushovers, with their physical play, swift attacks, and high confidence after their thunderous start.
However, Zambia are not ready to hand over the victory easily, with the likes of lethal striker Racheal Kundananji and Barbra Banda ready to show up fully loaded.
The Copper Queens head coach Nora Hauptle has already hinted at tactical changes, saying the team has worked on correcting mistakes from the Morocco match and sharpening their counter-attacks, an area where Zambia has proven deadly in the past.
The question remains, will the Copper Queens rise to the occasion and steal the top spot, or will Senegal continue roaring and tighten their grip on Group A?
Kickoff is set is set for 18:00 hours CAT.
