Zambia MMA team prepares for Africa Championships in Namibia

THE Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Zambia has proudly announced the national team’s readiness to compete in the Africa Championships, set to take place in Windhoek, Namibia scheduled between May 27 and June 1.

The team, comprising both seasoned and emerging athletes, will embark on their journey by bus tomorrow night, May 25, 2024.

The anticipation is visible as this year’s squad portrays an indisputable determination in the organisation’s history considering for the first time, the team includes two female athletes and one youth athlete.

This inclusion of the not so usual breed of athletes demonstrates Zambia’s MMA commitment to inclusivity and the nurturing of young talent within the sport.

MMA Zambia president Benjamin Bush expressed excitement and confirmed the teams readiness ahead of the championship tournament.

“We are excited and ready to compete against the best athletes from across the continent,” Bush said, “This milestone reflects our dedication to promoting inclusivity and fostering young talent in MMA.”

In an official press release issued, Bush expressed that the team had undergone rigorous training in preparation for the championship, instilling confidence in their ability to represent Zambia with pride.

He further expressed deep gratitude to the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts for their crucial support, providing the bus and necessary fuel for the team’s journey.

“Their assistance has been instrumental in making this trip possible,” he added.

Meanwhile, team coaches Humphrey Mulenga and Ken Sekeletu highlighted the athletes commitment and expertise.

“Their (team) hard work and dedication have been crucial in shaping their own abilities and professionalism and we can safely say, they are ready to face their competitors,” affirmed the coaches.

As the team sets off, the spirit of determination and national pride runs high.

The athletes are poised to meet the challenges ahead and aim to make Zambia proud on the continental stage.
