REPORTS of Rainford Kalaba’s death circulated earlier today after his former club, TP Mazembe, announced it. However, the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) has confirmed that the 37 year old is alive but in critical condition, receiving treatment after a car accident.

“Mr. Rainford Kalaba was brought to the hospital between 15.40hrs and 16.20 hours after being involved in a road traffic accident,” said Nzeba Chanda, public relations officer at UTH-Adult Hospital.

“His situation is critical, as doctors are working around the clock to stabilise his condition.”

Police have also released details of the accident, which occurred near Kafue S Corners on the Great North Road.

“Kalaba, a passenger in a Mercedes Benz, sustained suspected internal injuries after the car collided with a truck,” stated Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga.

“The female driver of the Mercedes Benz was tragically killed in the accident. Preliminary investigations indicate that the collision was caused by improper overtaking by the Mercedes Benz.”

Kalaba is currently admitted at UTH and doctors are working to stabilise his condition.

This news comes as a relief to Kalaba’s fans who were devastated by initial reports of his death. Many have expressed their well-wishes and are praying for his quick recovery.
