UPND warns MPs against switching constituencies before dissolution of parley

THE United Party for National Development (UPND) has warned its Members of Parliament to desist switching and campaigning, in other constituencies before parliament is dissolved.

Speaking to #Kalemba in an interview, UPND deputy secretary general Getrude Imenda said it is unwise for sitting MPs to rush somewhere else when they are still serving the people that took them to office.

Imenda said such MPs will face disciplinary measures should they be found wanting, after thorough investigations.

She explained that the party has no problem with people declaring interest to contest in other constituencies, as long as it is done after parliament is dissolved.

“I Wonder what they will deliver where they are going that they have not delivered where they are. What are they running away from, and why are they in such a hurry?

“Let them wait for parliament to dissolve then they can make those moves. What they can only do now is declare interest and not getting into campaigns, this is not right,” she said.

Meanwhile, Imenda also advised party members to stop disturbing serving MPs with their premature campaigns, stating that this makes it difficult for them to deliver.

She said that the party leadership has observed with sadness that there are members who are campaigning in areas where their fellow members are serving, a situation she said will not be tolerated from anyone.

Imenda wondered what campaign messages such people are telling the constituents, if it is not messages that make their fellow members.

“Let sitting MPs work and finish their tasks, only then can you go into those constituencies and start selling yourselves.”

“Do not go to an area where your fellow UPND member is serving to campaign, it is not right because you are disturbing and indirectly telling the constituents that the sitting MPs have failed,” said Imenda.
