PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has urged the newly sworn in Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan to lead all Tanzanians, even those who did not vote for her.
Speaking at President Suluhu’s inauguration ceremony in Tanzania yesterday, President Hichilema said true leadership was about bringing everyone together and not leaving anyone out.
“Madam President, once more congratulations, and we wish you well as you lead all the Tanzanians, including those who didn’t vote for you. Find space, find systems to reach out to them,” said President Hichilema.
The President revealed that despite losing many elections in the past, he never allowed himself or his supporters to take to the streets in protest.
“I lost many elections. I had the motivation to go in the streets when we felt that we did not get treated properly during elections. I was always the first one to say no one goes in the streets, no one,” The President said.
The Head of State urged leaders to always protect peace and stability, saying once they are lost, it is very hard to get them back.
President Hichilema further encouraged Tanzanians to focus on opportunities rather than conflicts and to invest in young people by giving them necessary skills training.
Zambia and Tanzania have had a strong friendship and a long history of working together for peace and development.
“As Zambia, we look forward to working closely with Tanzania to build a stronger, more peaceful region,” he said.
