Cheelo, said the timely delivery of seeds and fertilisers will give farmers enough time to prepare their fields, especially with early rains already falling in parts of the constituency.

The aspiring lawmaker explained that access to farming inputs is vital for small-scale farmers, many of whom often struggle when supplies arrive late.

“It’s imperative that farmers have all the necessary tools at their disposal,” Cheelo said.

“I therefore urge all farmers to take advantage of this opportunity and prepare their fields accordingly.”

Cheelo, also called on the Zambia Meteorological Department to provide accurate and consistent weather updates.

He said this will help farmers make informed decisions on which crop varieties to plant, including early, medium and late-maturing crops, so they can maximize their harvest.

The early inputs, according to Cheelo, are part of the government’s efforts to support farmers and ensure food security and a successful farming season.
