INFORMATION and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana says he has no political ambitions, therefore, people should not expect him to resign.
On Tuesday, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa told permanent secretaries who may have political ambitions to resign with immediate effect.
After that announcement, Kawana’s name stated making rounds in some circles, calling him out that he should be the first to resign because to them, the PS was political.
In response, Kawana stated that he had no political ambitions but people must understand that even though he may be a public servant, his job remained political.
“I have no iota of political ambition. So I want to make it very clear, I’m not running for any political office, I have no ambition for political office and I have heard some people saying let ‘Kawana be the first to resign,’ let me make it clear and put it on record, I’m not resigning because I’m not interested in joining main stream politics,” he said.
“But when you ask me questions, I will give you the information as it comes, unfortunately this information is political even when you seek the information you seek it’s politically, so even when I give you the information I give you politically. Governments are put in place politically, they are sustained politically and they are also removed politically.”
He however stated that he is in support of Kangwa’s directive adding that some people were taking his boss’s directive out of context.
“That message is clear that if you are a public worker and you want to stand as a councilor or MP, no one is stopping you, it is your constitutional right but don’t do it whilst in public office. Go and campaign using your personal resources not government resources,” explained Kawana during a programme on ZNBC.
