PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has strengthened ties between the church and the state with a K1.2 million donation to the Evangelical Church in Zambia (ECZ) Ndeke congregation in Kitwe, a gesture that drew cheers and praise from the faithful.
During a spirited Sunday service yesterday, President Hichilema announced a K1 million contribution towards the completion of the church building and an additional K200,000 to help the congregation purchase a vehicle for the resident pastor.
He said the donation symbolises his appreciation for the church’s role in shaping moral values, promoting unity and fostering peace across the country.
He urged Zambians to look beyond denominational lines and embrace tolerance.
“We may worship in different churches but we all pray to one God,” he said.
And ECZ Ndeke pastor in charge Joseph Kabulwe commended president Hichilema for his generosity and steady leadership, saying his administration had restored peace and curbed political violence.
