Copperbelt students endorse Hichilema for 2026

STUDENTS from various higher learning institutions on the Copperbelt have endorsed President Hakainde Hichilema as their preferred candidate for the August 13, 2026 general election.

National Council of Students Union (NACOSU) vice president Lloyd Nsonge told the Head of State that students across the province have endorsed him because of the developments he has scored in the education sector.

The endorsement was made during the Copperbelt Students Meet and Greet the President meeting at Arthur Davis Stadium in Kitwe yesterday.

Nsonge emphasised the need for students to rally behind the President in the forthcoming elections.

The students took turns to thank the Head of State for achievements recorded in the education sector, questioning why he should not be voted back to continue with the work he has already started.

“We are greateful to the UPND government for initiatives such as meal allowances, scholarships, and the provision of free education,” Copperbelt University Students Union president Given Chipewo said.

Meanwhile, Mukuba University Students Union vice president Regina Mwaanga thanked the President for ensuring that a girl child is also fully considered where education is concerned.

Accepting the endorsement, President Hichilema said he was overwhelmed by the support from the students.

He said government places a higher premium on improving the education sector, which is the backbone of the economy.

“We will continue prioritising the plight of students in all our higher learning institutions across the country for a better future and results,” he said.

A number of cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament from the province among other senior government officials also attended the interaction meeting.
