UTH midwife gets recognised for being human pain killer

UNLIKE grumpy nurses who make women swear never to return to the labour ward and regret being devoured like nshima at a Matebeto event, the story is quite different with Ethel Lubinda, a registered nurse midwife at the Women and Newborn Hospital of UTH.

In a time when some nurses confuse the labour ward for a military boot camp where some nurses bark orders and mock women in pain with lines like “You were enjoying alone, now push alone!” Lubinda is said to be a sweet refreshing exception who treats every mother like a queen.

Even the ones who scream like they are auditioning for a horror movie during labour are well taken care of by UTH’s own sweet midwife who acts like pain killer during the process.

Yesterday, Lubinda was honoured for the kindness and care she renders to expectant mothers during labour.

Her nurse in charge stated that Lubinda is so sweet that mothers don’t even get to feel the labour pains when she is on duty.

Known for her gentle touch, soothing voice and motherly patience, Lubinda has won the hearts and repeat deliveries of many women in Lusaka.

She happens to be a registered nurse-midwife for over 15 years of experience without a single “shut up” to her name as revealed by her boss.

“When this woman is on duty, the women don’t even experience the labour. She’s so sweet that we really thought we should recognise her efforts,” said the chief nursing officer for women and new born, Beatrice Mundia.
