The lifeless body of Nalishebo Sikundu, a woman recently living on her own in the same compound, was discovered earlier this morning around 05:00 hours in the unfenced yard of her residence in what police suspect to be a case of murder.

The body was discovered without any clothing and in the early stages of rigor mortis, which indicated that the victim had been deceased for several hours.

According to police, initial examination of the body revealed bruising around the neck, suggesting the possibility of strangulation.

Two pieces of torn underwear believed to belong to the victim, were found nearby, as well as a torn t-shirt discovered approximately one meter away.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga revealed that upon receiving a report of the body’s discovery, police officers swiftly arrived at the scene and confirmed the presence of the deceased adult lying on the ground.

Hamoonga reported that the surface of the yard was loosely packed with sand and stones, yet there were no discernible indications of a struggle.

Furthermore, interviews with the occupants of the house revealed that none of them had heard any noise or disturbance during the night, indicating that the victim may have been targeted or approached silently.

He stated that the victim’s identity was established by her 53-year-old aunt, Annie Lungu, who resides in the same community.

“The body has since been transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination to establish the actual cause of death,” Hamoonga revealed.

Hamoonga emphasised that authorities have swiftly launched an investigation into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the victim’s demise.

“An inquiry file has been opened and investigations are ongoing. Members of the public with any information that may assist in this case are urged to come forward and cooperate with the Police,” he added.
