ZAMBIANS were stunned this morning as they woke up to a disturbing Facebook post made by Mubiana Mubiana who announced his intention to end his life because of the effects of gambling.
27-year-old Mubiana, a police officer at Mongu Police Station posted on his social media profile, acknowledging that gambling had claimed numerous lives and believed his life would be next.
Mubiana described his struggles with mounting debts, a direct result of his gambling habits, and urged others to refrain from following in his footsteps.
Mubiana pleaded with his friends to protect themselves from the pitfalls of gambling, urging them to avoid gambling, betting, and aviator games.
According to sources, the cop had won over K140,000 but decided to tempt his luck by re-gambling it. However the outcome was as as bitter Kababa.
Mubiana ended up losing the money.
He lamented that despite his efforts to change his life for the better, he had ultimately found himself in a downward spiral of financial loss, personal shame and professional humiliation.
He felt that his life was devoid of progress and filled with lies, distrust and moral corruption and his self-esteem and confidence had been eroded to the point where he no longer recognised himself.
“My life has become miserable, I don’t even understand who I am anymore. I’m a liar, untrustworthy, and a bad person. This is too much for me,” he wrote.
“I tried my best but things never worked out for me hence, gambling became my only outlet but it ruined my life. I have disappointed everyone who knows me, my family, my colleagues in the Zambia Police Service and anyone who has believed in me.”
Following his post, Netizens raised alarms over his safety and called for help.
Fortunately sources have told Kalemba that he is safe, though detained at Mongu Police Station.
In an interview, a close family friend revealed that Mubiana’s struggle with gambling addiction had led him to contemplate ending his life on more than one occasion.
From drinking poison in his first attempt to join the ancestors, Mubiana is said to have used a gun to finalise his last days on earth.
Though, no official information has been released from authorities, it is reported that Mubiana is shot himself in the mouth and was immediately transported to Lewanika General Hospital by some well wishers who were close to him for urgent medical attention.
Upon arrival, the medical staff quickly assessed his condition tending to his injuries, which fortunately turned out to be not life-threatening.
Following his recovery, Mubiana was taken into custody by the local authorities and placed at Mongu Police Station.
Police are yet to give the full details of why he is being detained.
