INSPECTOR general of Police Graphael Musamba has invited members of the public to visit police stations to interact with officers and learn more about ongoing policing efforts.
Musamba has also said Zambians should take collective responsibility in maintaining peace as the country heads towards elections, saying law and order cannot be left to the police alone.
Speaking yesterday ahead of Police Day today, Musamba said democracy can only thrive when citizens and the police work together to protect peace, unity and security.
He said this year’s Police Day theme, “Peaceful Elections, Our Shared Responsibility,” is a timely call for all Zambians to take part in safeguarding stability before, during and after elections.
“Peace, security and stability are not the responsibility of police alone; they are a collective duty, a shared responsibility between the police and the communities we proudly serve,” Musamba said.
“We invite you to interact with our officers, understand our operations, share your concerns and contribute your ideas. Together, through community policing and shared responsibility, we will continue building a Zambia that is peaceful, secure, stable and prosperous for all.”
The Inspector General also expressed gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema for his continued support to the Zambia Police Service and thanked citizens for their cooperation and trust.
“Your confidence in us is not taken for granted, it forms the foundation upon which we carry out our constitutional mandate,” he said.
Musamba noted the progress made through community policing initiatives, stating that crime prevention is most effective when communities actively participate.
“Through community crime prevention and control associations, we have seen first-hand how collaboration strengthens security and prevents crime before it occurs,” he said.
The Police boss also encouraged police officers to remain professional, disciplined and respectful of human rights as they work to keep the country safe.
“I commend our officers for their professionalism, resilience and unwavering commitment to duty. I urge you to continue serving with integrity, impartiality, discipline and full respect for human rights,” Musamba said.
