A 23-year-old man from Mazabuka has died after collapsing twice while trying to help his elder sister negotiate with a landlord who wanted them out of their rented house.
Tionge Zyambo had been living with his 25-year-old sister in Appolo Compound, where life had already been pressing hard on the two young siblings.
But on Wednesday morning, the pressure became too much for Tionge.
According to Southern Province Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo, around 09:00 hours, the sister called Tionge from his bedroom to help her reason with the landlord, who was demanding that they vacate the house because they had struggled to settle their rent.
As Tionge sat down to speak with the landlord, he suddenly collapsed and began fitting.
He regained consciousness moments later, but instead of resting, he tried to follow the landlord so they could finish the conversation.
It was then that he collapsed for the second and final time.
Overwhelmed and panicked, his sister frantically hired a taxi and rushed him to Mazabuka General Hospital, but Tionge was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police later inspected the body and confirmed it had no visible injuries.
“The body has since been deposited in Mazabuka General Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem to determine the cause of death,” Namalongo stated.
Authorities said investigations remain ongoing.
