A 35-year-old man of Mwanya area in, Lumezi District has been arrested after he was caught defiling a 22-year-old mentally challenged woman in the middle of a busy trading centre.

The shameless act happened on the night of Wednesday, around 20:30 hours at Chitungulu Main Market in Chief Chitungulu’s area.
Police sources reveal that the victim had gone earlier in the day to visit her elder brother, who runs a shop at the market.
However, she did not return home that evening, leaving her 62-year-old grandmother worried.
The following morning, the victim resurfaced with her elder brother, who informed their grandmother that he had found her being sexually abused by a man later identified as Duncan Zulu.
According to witnesses, Zulu was caught in the very act of having carnal knowledge of the helpless woman.
He was quickly apprehended by members of the community who dragged him to Chitungulu Police Post before he was later transferred to Lundazi Police Station.
Police issued a medical report form for the victim to undergo medical examination and treatment. A docket case has since been opened.
Eastern Province police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the shameful incident.
“The suspect is in lawful custody at Lundazi Police Station and will appear in court soon,” stated Mweemba.
Zulu now awaits his day in court while the victim is receiving medical attention following the abuse.
