Indo Zambia Bank equips flying doctors with over K1 million theatre and dental units

AT the AeroMED James Lawless Centre in Ndola, excited health workers walked through their newly refurbished theatre and dental units, rooms that not too long ago lacked the tools needed to carry out specialised procedures.

For years, the Zambia Flying Doctors Services (ZFDS) have travelled across the country, landing in villages where hospitals are far and proper equipment is rare.

They have been treating patients with whatever tools they had, sometimes improvising to save lives.

However, on Saturday, the Indo Zambia Bank stepped in and handed over brand-new, fully equipped medical units valued at over K1 million, giving the Flying Doctors confidence in the work they do.

The handover ceremony was attended by Health Minister Dr. Elijah Muchima and Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo, both visibly impressed as they toured the upgraded facilities.

They watched as ZFDS Board Chairperson Dr. Rosemary Kumwenda and CEO Dr. George Nguni received the donation with deep gratitude, explaining how much this support means for rural communities.

In most villages the flying doctors have visited, some patients have waited months for surgeries that could only be done once they had the right equipment.

With the new theatre and dental units, many of those delays will finally be shortened.

And, Indo Zambia Bank Managing Director Brajesh Kumar Singh said the decision to support the Flying Doctors came from understanding the reality of healthcare in rural Zambia as countless lives depend on the few medical teams willing to travel.

“At Indo Zambia Bank, we believe that healthy communities are strong communities and wellness is a cornerstone of national development,” Singh said.
