PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to remain focused on growing the economy so as to continuously support the health sector through increased domestic resource allocation.
The Head of State said that through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), government will continue to invest in health facilities across the country by ensuring that every facility has a functional maternity wing.
He said this will in turn bring quality healthcare closer to the people of Zambia.
The Head of State said this when the World Health Organisation (WHO) Resident Representative to Zambia Dr Clement Lasuba paid a courtesy call on him at State House this morning.
The engagement focused on productive discussions on strengthening collaboration to enhance Zambia’s capacity in the preparedness, prevention and response to public health threats.
“As the Global Champion for Cholera Control, Zambia is committed to prioritising maternal and newborn health, recognising that health remains a cornerstone of our development agenda.”
“We are pleased to reaffirm our strong partnership with the WHO and other stakeholders as we work collectively to address Zambia’s health challenges,” stated President Hichilema.
He revealed that Zambia was honoured to host WHO Regional Committee meeting this August.
President Hichilema said the meeting is an affirmation of the continued collaboration and trust between WHO and Government.
“We also welcome the planned launch of the National Cholera Elimination Plan, a comprehensive blueprint aimed at catalysing a multisectoral response to control and ultimately eliminate cholera in Zambia,” added the President.
