CDF transforms Katete mother to tailoring entrepreneur

A MOTHER in Katete is stitching together a new life for herself and her children after graduating in Tailoring and Designing through the Katete Town Council Constituency Development Fund (CDF) skills sponsorship.

Grace Nyoni, who had been sitting at home with no source of income, says the CDF-funded programme has given her the skills and confidence to build a better future, not just for herself but for her children and her parents as well.

Donning a graduation gown recently in Katete and vibing to Yo Maps’ s hit song ‘Season Yanga’, Nyoni’s excitement could not be hidden even by her sunglasses as if to demonstrate that her future was to bright to contain in shades.

Nyoni told #Kalemba that with the skills she has gained, her next step is to open a tailoring shop where she plans to earn an income, rewrite her General Certificate Examinations, and even help other young people by creating employment.

“After finishing secondary school, I was not doing anything, not even business, and that’s why I decided to do the programme,” Nyoni told #Kalemba.

She said the CDF bursary gave her hope to try school again and catch up on subjects which she did not ace during final Grade 12 exams.

” The skills programme, has really equipped me and I plan to raise money through the skills obtained so that I can rewrite my GCE and also support my children at school as well as my parents for all the sacrifices they have done,” shared Nyoni.

Like many others empowered through CDF skills development initiatives, Nyoni now stands as an example of how government support is reaching the grassroots and helping ordinary citizens regain control of their futures.

“I won’t sit idle with these new skill sets, I plan on buying a sewing machine, open up a shop so that I can also employ others the same way the Government has helped me,” added Nyoni.
