Buffalo kills Chama farmer

Residents in Chilenje Ward of Chama, Eastern Province have been left in mourning following the death of a 52-year-old farmer who reportedly died from a Buffalo attack.

With no clear details of how the attack occurred, it is believed that the buffalo killed Philimon Kabandama on Thursday, July 10, while on his way to harvest groundnuts.

Kabandama of Nthangalacha village in Chief Chifunda’s area, was discovered lifeless yesterday morning.

Chilenje Ward Councilor Carlos Zimba confirmed the incident, stating that Kabandama is believed to have been attacked by the buffalo between 14:00 and 15:00 hours.

Zimba expressed sadness by the loss of a life in his ward and extended his condolences to the family during this difficult time.

He also emphasized the importance of containing wild animals to prevent similar tragedies, for instance keeping them in wire fences.

Kabandama is survived by his wife and three children and will be laid to rest today.

Police are yet to release an official report on the incident.
