Boy dies in Lusaka road accident, 2 others injured in separate crashes

A FOUR year-old boy has lost his life after being struck by a minibus along Chainda Clinic Road in Lusaka, while two others sustained serious injuries in separate road traffic accidents across the city.

Prince Mwanza was playing near the roadside at about 17:40 hours when a Toyota Quantum minibus, driven by 40-year-old Joseph Siyalunga, hit him after the driver failed to keep to his nearside.

The child sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital.

Police assistant spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi confirmed the incident saying the driver remains in police custody as investigations continue while the boy’s body has been taken to the mortuary awaiting postmortem.

In a separate incident, Victor Banda of 10 Miles lost control of his Toyota Sienta near BK Bar along 70/70 Road at around 16:30 hours, causing the vehicle to overturn.

Banda sustained injuries and is admitted to Levy Mwanawasa University Teaching Hospital.

Meanwhile, another crash occurred at approximately 16:00 hours at the junction of Mwatusanga and Msuzi Roads when a motorcycle ridden by 43-year-old Kapaya Chinyanta collided with a Nissan Juke.

Police say the motorcyclist failed to stop at the junction and hit the Nissan, which had the right of way.

Chinyanta sustained multiple injuries and he is admitted to Maina Soko Hospital.

Zambia Police Service has urged all road users to exercise caution and strictly follow traffic rules to prevent further accidents and loss of life.

“We urge all road users to exercise caution and strictly adhere to traffic rules to prevent accidents and loss of life,” stated Chilabi.
