FOLLOWING the video of socialite and Lusaka business lady, Florence Solochi that made rounds on social media last month, Police in Kabwe yesterday summoned her for an interview concerning the sexual assault allegations made in the video.
In the video, Solochi claims that she was a victim of sodomy and child sexual harassment which she said took place when she was as young as 2 years old.
However, in a statement released by Police spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga, he said in the vain of protecting every citizen against sexual abuse, police have taken interest in the allegations she made.
Hamoonga further said that despite the interest of police in the matter, it was almost impossible for them to investigate the allegations.
This is because despite the seriousness of the allegations, the alleged victim, Solochi has not formerly lodged a complaint with the police.
“While we take all reports of criminal activity seriously, it is imperative that individuals come forward to provide formal statements and cooperate with authorities in order to properly investigate such matters,” said Hamoonga.
He added that without a formal complaint, it is challenging for law enforcement to fully investigate and take appropriate action on such matters.
Hamoonga further noted that despite the matter not having a formal police complaint by the alleged victim, Police in Kabwe, Central Province, yesterday summoned Solochi for an interview.
He said the details of the outcome we will be availed to the public once investigations have been concluded.
Hamoonga also took time to encourage anyone that has been a victim of any crime before to come forward and report the incident, emphasising that the Police’s utmost priority was to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of the community.
“And we are committed to thoroughly investigating any allegations of criminal activity,” added Hamoonga.
