HH calls on newly appointed people to serve

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has told the newly sworn-in heads of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) and the Director of Public to remember that their new positions are not there’s but for the purpose of serving the people.
 
President Hichilema said most people take up public offices but forget that they are there to serve the people.
 
He further told newly appointed that expectations are high from him and from the rest of the country, stating that they must ensure they remain steadfast and deliver according to their mandate.
 
President Hichilema said this after swearing in ACC director general Tom Shamakamba and director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri,ECZ chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis, and her deputy Ali Simwinga, as well as Mcdonald Chipenzi who was sworn in as ECZ Commissioner.
 
The President further swore in Patrick Kangwa as Secretary to the Cabinet and his deputy Oliver Kalabo, Musician Chama Fumba, also known as Pilato as Youth, Sports and Art Permanent Secretary and Zambia’s Ambassador to Japan, Tobias Mulimbika.
 
President Hichilema implored the Gilbert Mwale to be fearless while executing his duties so that they can effectively serve the people of Zambia through the justice system.
 
President Hichilema added that corrupt people have a tendency of instilling fear in office bearers.
 
He said reiterated that Government expects speed and proficiency in sevuce delivery.
 
He also called for the arresting of suspects made after investigations.
 
“If you can arrest after investigations then you can move with prosecution quicly because you will have already had the details . I repeat don’t arrest before you have done the investigations,” President Hichilema said.
 
He also called on the chief justice to reform the economic and finace crimes court business stating “you can’t prosecute a case for one year.”
 
“if you can have a presidential petition done in 14 days why should we have a parlimentary petition going on for one year?” President Hichilema said.
