TWO Mpongwe-based police inspectors are admitted to the Ndola Teaching Hospital with serious head injuries and deformed faces after being whipped by a drunk truck driver.

Medics have since added enough pain killers to the diets of Inspectors Lewis Kasase and Yorum Chama to subside the massive body pians inflicted on them by the inebriated driver.

Trouble for officers began when a 30-year old truck driver identified as Anthony Kasumpabuwe appeared at Mpongwe Police Station around 04:30 this morning to report that his truck was missing a bag of fertilizer.

Being the trained officers that they are, inspectors Chama and Kasase accompanied the truck driver to God is God Trading area in Mpongwe where the theft is believed to have taken place.

As the trio made their way to the truck, Kasumpabuwe hinted to the officers that he suspected his 20-year old lorry boy to have been behind the theft.

Acting on Kasumpabuwe’s suspicions, the two officers apprehended his lorry boy but were shocked that the driver attacked them before they could even leave the scene.

As if he is killing poisonous snakes, Kasumpabuwe got hold of a plunk and a cement block and began to mercilessly whip the officers.

The loud wailing of the officers got the attention of a security guard working nearby.

When the guard came to check the reason of the commotion, he found two cops wriggling on the ground and wailing in pian as Kasumpabuwe beat them.

Afraid of what the truck driver would do to him, a mere security guard, who was mercilessly beating trained how to do only right/left turn, could not rescue the two Kamfinsa-trained cops.

The security guard just opted to jog to Mpongwe Police Station and reported the matter.

At the station, officers mobilised and rushed to save the clobbered comrades who they immediately rushed to Mpongwe Mission Hospital before they were referred to Ndola Central Hospital.

Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba confirmed the attack on the cops and that their condition was serious.

Mweemba said the truck driver was in a drunken state during the incident and has since been arrested.
