WHAT was supposed to be a romantic night out for a couple in Itezhi-tezhi district of Southern Province has ended on a bad note as the wife was allegedly raped by two men during a vicious assault that occurred while the couple was walking home from a drinking spree.
The night began with the couple showing affection and sharing a night of drinking at a local bar however, their plans took a dark turn when they were attacked by four men on their way back home, inflicting physical harm and sexually assaulting the 36 year old woman in Lilanda Compound.
According to authorities the incident occurred yesterday around 02:30 hours in the bush near Lee Lodge in Itezhi-tezhi township.
Southern province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka revealed that the four attackers were led by a suspect only identified as Frank, who instigated a chase as the couple fled in the direction of Lee Lodge after sensing danger.
Daka disclosed that in a desperate attempt to escape, the couple split up, with the assailants pursuing the woman.
Eventually, Frank and another suspect caught up with the survivor, allegedly taking turns raping her before fleeing the scene.
Daka reported that the victim sustained vaginal and general body pains and is currently admitted to Itezhi-Tezhi Hospital.
“A medical report form was issued to the victim, and a docket of case has been opened,” he said.
No arrests have been made at this stage as investigations into the matter are ongoing.
