THE normally festive and happy Nyau dancing arena of Matiya Village in Sinda District was left bathed in mucus, blood and torn political regalia of PF cadres and supporters of an independent candidate after the two groups had a go at each other.

The two groups, who at the start of campaigns, shared some love on the basis of both campaigning for President Edgar Lungu, threw away whatever little hugs had remained between them and instead shared fists, kicks, spits and slaps.

According to eyewitness accounts, the fight was provoked after the two groups bumped into each other during their village-to -village campaigns.

The supporters of PF Kapoche Constituency candidate Luckson Lungu allegedly started hurling insults at supporters of Independent Candidate Erick Mwale accusing them of splitting votes in favour of the opposition UPND.

Without a whistle to signal the start of the bout, the rival groups leaped on each other, cutting, slashing and punching whatever slay in front of them.

The violence sent the villagers scampering into the nearby bush fearful that the spluttering of tears, mucus and blood would stain their clothes.

Confirming the incident, Esther Mwata Katongo, Police Spokesperson said that motor vehicles, among them, a Toyota Canter, had windows smashed as stones were used in the battle.

The PF in Eastern Province is facing an uphill battle against an outbreak of Independent candidates in all constituencies who were left out of PF adoptions.
