NINE Bonanza machines have been confiscated in Lusaka Kaunda square stage one market for failing to adhere to stipulated procedure for running the betting business.
This follows the complaint by some concerned parents that many pupils were dodging class to play Bonanza games.
Kaunda Square ward 33 councillor Sylvester Mulenga said in an interview yesterday that his office managed to confiscate nine betting machines and owners have been fined for abrogating the law.
“Most people of the affected people were placing Bonanza machines in groceries where children can easily have access. We have the by-law in place for guiding the operations,’’ he said.
Mulenga said as the overseer of Kaunda square ward 33 community, he wants to bring sanity in the area.
According to the law, only people above the age of 18 should be allowed to bet.
