Born John Chimpakasa, but behind the microphone, transforms into ‘JayPro Dot7,’ os singer and songwriter who is blending deep messages with catchy beats, creating a sound and lyrics that hit hearts.
At 32, JayPro places himself in the realm of ‘conscious artists,’ rather than the typical hit seeking performers.
He told #Kalemba that his music explores themes of hope, healing and inspiration, setting him apart from the mainstream and positioning him as a thoughtful voice in Zambia’s music landscape.
Tracing his passion for music back to his childhood, JayPro recalled how singing and songwriting became an integral part of his life, serving as a source of solace and creative expression.
“Music has always been there for me since I was young. Even as a child, I found peace and purpose in singing and writing songs, which became a natural extension of who I am,” he said.
“As I grew up, music became my refuge, a place where I could truly be myself, share my thoughts, and connect with others on a deep level.”
In 2023, JayPro Dot7 unleashed his debut EP, “Benediction,” a powerful eight-track collection that centers on themes of hope, healing, and introspection.
He stated that “Benediction” was inspired by his realisation that life’s struggles do not diminish the inherent blessing of being alive and the EP thus explored themes of hope, healing, and introspection, celebrating resilience and renewal.
Through this project, he not only made his formal entry into the Zambian music industry but also laid the groundwork for his artistic journey.
JayPro mentioned that this year, he plans to release an 8-track EP entitled ‘Love is not a Religion,’ that aims to delve deeper into the themes of faith, doubt, and humanity’s relationship with spirituality, building upon his previous EP’s reflections on resilience and renewal.
He further shared that his first visual on YouTube, titled “Watcha Gonna Do,” draws inspiration from the biblical story of Job.
“Emotionally profound and spiritually resonant, “Watcha Gonna Do” delves into themes of faith, uncertainty, and perseverance, drawing parallels to Job’s life experiences,” he said.

He stated that his fans can look forward to more soulful, conscious music that provokes reflection and inspires hope.
“Expect a range of visuals and collaborations as I explore the depth and complexity of the human experience.”

Aside from music, JayPro Dot7 also boasts an impressive educational background, having earned a degree in Business Administration from Blessings University of Excellence (BLUE) and a diploma in Computer Engineering from Evelyn Hone College.
