Dead mother, son repatriation successful as Zambian community chip in

THE warm hearts of Zambians have shone bright as the family of a woman who died during her son’s funeral in Mwinilunga, Northwestern Province appreciates the gesture of the citizens who rendered a helping hand in the repatriation of the two bodies.

The Lusaka family, will finally bring their loved ones home for burial thanks to an outpouring of community support.

Frailness Siamusumpuka, who tragically collapsed and died in Mwinilunga while attending the funeral of her son, Sedies Simatonge, will be repatriated to Lusaka today.

Sedies, a Form One pupil at Kabanda Day Secondary School, drowned in the Mudanyama River on Saturday, June 14, 2025.

His body was recovered the following morning.

The community in Mwinilunga had gathered for his burial on Tuesday afternoon when his mother, Siamusumpuka, arrived and tragically passed away after seeing her son’s body.

Kenneth Kakoma, a representative from Kabanda Day Secondary School, confirmed the bodies are being transported to Lusaka for burial.

He also announced that a public appeal for contributions to cover the transportation costs has been highly successful.

“We opened contributions and we managed to collect K10,040,” Kakoma stated.

“The contributions came through all the media houses that shared the story. We are now closing the chapter of contributions.”

The family expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming support received during the difficult time.
