On the top list of the continent’s manufacturing industry is South Africa at number one followed by Egypt, Nigeria, Morocco due to their high-tech industries, large-scale industrial parks, and export-focused production models.
The African manufacturing industry is expected to generate a value-added output of US$77.66 billion, with Zambia emerging as a notable contributor through its growing industrial base, powered by agriculture, construction, and fast-moving consumer goods.
According to the African Exponent, Zambia’s rise to number 10 in Africa’s manufacturing rankings is attributed to the strength of key players such as Zambeef Products, a leader in agri-processing, and Trade Kings, a dominant force in fast moving consumer goods.
The sector also includes major operations in cement, steel, food, and beverages, with companies like Lafarge Zambia and Dangote Zambia driving local production.
Government support through favorable industrial policies and incentives was cited to have accelerated Zambia’s manufacturing trajectory.
As the nation seeks to diversify beyond its traditional copper exports, manufacturing is becoming a critical engine for job creation, value addition, and economic resilience.
