The Mansa Municipal Council moved in yesterday following weeks of non-compliance with the Public Health Act, Cap 295 of the Laws of Zambia.
Inspections revealed the discharge of raw sewage into the open environment, caused by filled-up septic tanks and a clogged soakaway pit.
The first inspection on July 22, 2025 led to a seven-day ultimatum for the supermarket to fix the problem.
A follow-up on July 30, 2025 found no change, and a final inspection on August 6, 2025 resulted in a 24-hour abatement notice.
However, the situation still remained unresolved.
According to Mansa Municipal Council assistant public relations officer, Dorothy Ng’ambi, the closure was necessary to protect residents from potential health hazards.
“The Council will not sit idly while businesses endanger public health and pollute our environment,” stated Ng’ambi.
