PF says it is ready to contest the August 13 general election with the Edgar Lungu family spokesperson Makebi Zulu as it’s leader.
On Saturday, the Given Lubinda faction held its convention and declared Zulu as the winner of the party presidency.
According to shared reports, the former Eastern Province Minister topped votes from 110 districts with 49.2 percent, followed by former Health minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya at 34.1 percent, former Kabwata lawmaker Given Lubinda at 8.7 percent, Chanda Katotobwe at 4.8 percent, Greyford Monde at 1.9 percent and Chishimba Kambwili at 1.4 percent.
Phoenix FM reports that PF deputy secretary general Celestine Mukandila said the former ruling party considers its recently held convention, legitimate, as it involved party structures from 116 districts and 156 constituencies.
He said that arrangement made the whole convention transparent and credible and the party was now focusing on unity and consolidation.
Mukandila said the former ruling party anticipated some members would not accept the outcome, but that they are open to bringing back those who distanced themselves during the leadership dispute.
He also noted that PF will consider other options in terms of a party to stand on if the court case does not go it’s favour.
