M’membe urges Catholics to escort Alick Banda to DEC in church uniforms

SOCIALIST Party leader Dr Fred M’membe has urged ‘all Catholics, draped in their various lay group uniforms, and Zambians of goodwill’ to turn out in large numbers on Monday and escort Lusaka Archbishop Alick Banda to the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) headquarters.

The clergyman is expected to be questioned about a Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Hilux dubiously gifted to him by the PF.

In a statement, Dr M’membe vowed that the Archbishop would not walk alone to the commission’s offices.

“We will accompany our Shepherd to Hakainde Hichilema’s Calvary and help him carry his cross. He will not carry Hichilema’s cross alone,” said DR M’membe.

The opposition leader stated that if President Hichilema used to appear alone every time he was summoned as an opposition leader then even Archbishop Banda will appear alone.

Quoting the saying “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander,” Dr M’membe said the principle demands equal treatment for all, warning against hypocrisy and double standards.

“This means that rules, treatment, or benefits should apply equally to everyone, regardless of gender or individual differences, and is often used to call out hypocrisy or double standards, suggesting fairness should be universal,” said Dr M’membe.

“We therefore make a clarion call to all Catholics and Zambians of goodwill, to turn out in huge numbers and accompany the Archbishop to the Drug Enforcement Commission. Come in your various Catholic lay groups uniforms. Come rain, come sunshine we will be there!”

He also quoted Matthew 7:12, saying the verse teaches people to treat others the way they would want to be treated.

“Matthew 7:12: “In everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets”.
Luke 6:31: “Do to others as you would have them do to you”.
