HELLEN Chibambo, widow of the late celebrated singer Dandy Krazy, real name Wesley Chibambo has opened up that after her husband’s death, she became a heavy drinker of alcohol who could drink themselves to sleep.
The woman who once shared laughter, music and dreams with the late music star, found herself plunged into darkness and what followed was a battle with grief so heavy it almost broke her completely that ar one pint she almost ended her life.
Speaking when she appeared on The ZMB Talks, Hellen revealed that her journey was filled with grief, addiction and survival.
“I started drinking heavily from morning till night. I felt lost and even thought about ending my life. I wasn’t thinking clearly. Everything felt out of control,” she said.
Hellen described how she tried to numb her pain with alcohol, making the bottle her favorite friend as she struggled to cope with the void left by her husband.
“I even considered going for rehab, but I’m still here, trying to live for the sake of the kids because I know the big man wouldn’t want me to always be a broken version of myself,” she said.
She admitted that negative comments and judgement from others often fueled her despair, but she gradually found the strength to pick herself up.
Reflecting on her viral dance she showcased in a club weeks after burying her husband, she explained that she wasn’t in her right mind at that point and was only seeking comfort.
“I was not in my right mind. That black dress I wore was my husband’s favorite and also, I took some tequila and just let myself go. It was a moment of chaos, but also a cry for help. I’m grateful that people intervened.”
Dandy Krazy, died early this year, from injuries he sustained in a road accident on New Year’s Eve.
