THE Zambian media fraternity has been plunged into mourning following the deaths of two dedicated media professionals, Marvin Manengu, a long-serving cameraman under the Ministry of Education, and Joiros Chirwa, a former radio presenter from Nyimba FM.
Manengu died on August 3rd, while Chirwa passed away on the Copperbelt, the previous day.
Until his death, following his illness, Manengu served as a cameraman for the Ministry of Education, a role he held with unwavering commitment across different political eras.
His career in media began at Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS), where he contributed significantly to the visual documentation of Zambia’s development and political journey.
Manengu is especially remembered for having worked under all seven presidents, capturing historic national moments behind the camera.
Meanwhile, Joiros Chirwa, who was known for his distinct voice and strong presence on Nyimba FM, died after battling illness.
He was known for his dedication to community broadcasting, using radio as a tool to educate, inform and unite people in Nyimba and surrounding areas.
During his time at Nyimba FM, he hosted several programmes that tackled social issues, governance, and development, always aiming to uplift his listeners.
Meanwhile, MISA Zambia chairperson Lorraine Chisanga expressed deep sorrow over the deaths describing the loss of these two individuals as a major blow to Zambia’s media industry.
“Zambia has lost two committed and respected media professionals, and their absence will be deeply felt,” Chisanga stated.
The nation now bids farewell to two gallant media workers whose legacies will remain part of Zambia’s media history.
