Eastern Province police commissioner Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred yesterday around 20:00 hours in Kandeya Village, Chief Nyamphande.

Brief facts of the matter are that, the deceased’s mother, Ruth Tembo, 45, and father, Michael Lungu, 48, had gone to sleep in their house around 20:00 hours leaving the brazier still lit.

The door curtain reportedly flew near the brazier and it caught fire, engulfing the house.

“The parents managed to escape the fire through a bedroom window, but unfortunately, they left their child behind,” said Mweemba.

Mweemba added that the deceased, Given Lungu, was completely burnt to ashes, while the parents were rushed to Petauke District Hospital for medical attention.
