MINISTER of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Charles Milupi says his ministry is in talks with the Ministry of Finance and National Planning to raise locally-generated money to reconstruct the Kazungula-Sesheke road.

Milupi, an engineer, inspected the 195 kilometre Livingstone- Kazungula-Sesheke road on Thursday afternoon.

While the Livingstone to Kazungula part of the road is in good condition, the Kazungula to Sesheke part is a bumpy hellrun.
According to the minister, the Kazungula-Sesheke road has initially been earmarked to be rehabilitated under the public private partnership (PPP) model.

“However, since the process has taken long to materialise, the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has entered into talks with the Ministry of Finance and National Planning to source locally generated funds to work on it,” said Milupi, according to a statement issued by his ministry.

“Having been on this road both before and after the new dawn administration formed government in 2021, I was not taking this tour to confirm how deplorable the Nakatindi road is; I was undertaking this inspection to deliver a message to our people that we have accorded this highly economic road a top-level priority status.”

Milupi was accompanied on the tour by Road Development Agency (RDA) Board of directors chairperson Engineer Mulchand Kuntawala, RDA acting director and chief executive offficer engineer Grace Mutembo and government officials.
