THE Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary Peter Mumba, assures Zambians that the country has ample fuel stocks and there’s no need to worry about shortages.

Mumba emphasised the government’s commitment to maintaining a steady supply, particularly with the ongoing developments surrounding the TAZAMA pipeline.

The TAZAMA pipeline plays a critical role in Zambia’s fuel logistics, transporting 80 percent of the country’s diesel.

This significance is amplified as the pipeline undergoes its final stages of implementing an open access regime chosen through a competitive bidding process.

The system aims to enhance fuel transportation efficiency and potentially reduce costs within Zambia.

Mumba underlined the Ministry’s focus on securing affordable fuel sources, revealing the approval of several companies to supply low sulfur gas oil through the pipeline, aligning with Zambia’s economic development goals.

Nominations for diesel supply via the TAZAMA pipeline are currently underway, following the guidelines set forth in the open access regime.

“The Ministry of Energy, empowered by the Energy Act, can take necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted fuel supply in case of any security threats,” said Mumba, highlighting the importance of a consistent fuel supply, which is considered a national security concern.

An update on the open access regime confirms that the process is still ongoing through a competitive bidding process nearing its award stage, Government revealed yesterday via a press briefing.

Government reiterated that while all petroleum products are delivered by road, 80 percent of diesel relies on the TAZAMA pipeline.

The Ministry of Energy, welcomed oil marketing companies willing to supply Zambia with cheaper fuel to support economic development.

It was revealed that several firms have already been approved to supply low Sulphur gas oil through the TAZAMA pipeline as an interim measure.

Meanwhile Mumba assured the public that Government is actively reviewing monthly fuel price reviews.

However he noted that they still implementing monthly fuel price reviews to ensure a stable fuel supply in Zambia aiming to achieve more stability for consumers.
