“We almost even won the game, but we just lost a little concentration,” Kundanji reflected on Zambia’s 2-2 draw against hosts Morocco in their opening Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAfCON) opener.

Despite the late equalizer that denied them a full three points, the team is channeling their energy into a powerful sense of pride in their performance and an unwavering focus on their upcoming fixtures.

In a pulsating encounter on Saturday, Zambia twice seized the lead through sheer determination, showcasing their attacking prowess and commitment through captain Barbra Banda who later provided an assist to Kundanji to put Zambia ahead

However, Morocco, spurred on by their home crowd, fought back on both occasions, ensuring a share of the spoils.

Kundananji, who plays for Bay FC in the US, acknowledged that the team had executed their game plan effectively and given their absolute best.

Despite the disappointment of conceding late, the mood within the Copper Queens camp is overwhelmingly positive.

“The supporters gave us morale, and we wanted to give them what they came here to see,” she said, underscoring the team’s appreciation for the passionate crowd while asuring for a better outcome in their next game against Senegal on Wednesday.

Senegal are the queens of Group A after beating the Democratic Republic of Congo 4-0 yesterday, while Morocco is number 2, Zambia follows, leaving DRC at the bottom with no point.

With their focus now entirely on the path ahead, the Copper Queens have returned to camp with a clear objective: to secure maximum points from their next two group stage fixtures and advance to the knockout rounds.

They are determined to learn from their experience against Morocco, correct any missteps, and build on the strong foundation they have laid.
