A THRILLING Sunday was experienced at Nkoloma Stadium as Red Arrows and Power Dynamos booked their spots in the ABSA Cup 2025 semifinals with strong performances.
In the first game of the day, the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) sponsored side showed why they are the defending champions by beating Green Eagles 3-1 in a lively contest.
The match started with both teams going back and forth then, in the 23rd minute, Red Arrows took the lead when Walford Sikanyika found the back of the net after a quick attack.
But Eagles quickly responded just five minutes later as they were awarded a penalty which Simon Mulenga stepped up and calmly scored to make it 1-1.
The turning point came in the 71st minute when Michee Malonga headed in a free kick from Peter Kalota to give Red Arrows the lead again.
Eagles tried to fight back, but couldn’t break through the air men’s defence.
In the final minute of the game, Arrows were awarded a penalty of their own which Malonga quickly stepped up and smashed in his second goal of the day to seal the win.
Meanwhile, later in the day, Power Dynamos showed their class in a solid 2-0 win over Kabwe Warriors, last year’s runners-up.
It was the Eddie Ankobo show as he scored twice in the first half, once in the 23rd minute with a clever finish, and again in the 31st minute with a strong header.
This left Warriors with no answer and couldn’t find a way back into the game making it possible for ‘aba yellow’ to smoothly proceed to the semifinals of the tournament.
The results mean Power Dynamos will face the defending the champions Red Arrows in a big semifinal clash on April 26, 2025 while the other semifinal will see ZESCO United take on Nkana FC.
