Lameck Banda discharged from hospital after Napoli-Lecce collision, team, FAZ confirm

ZAMBIAN international winger Lameck Banda has been discharged from hospital after suffering a collision during a Serie A match between SSC Napoli and U.S. Lecce in the 86th minute of the game.

Banda was forced to leave the pitch following a heavy challenge during the match in Naples, raising concern among fans and the wider football community.

The 25-year-old was immediately taken to Cardarelli Hospital for medical evaluation and observation, Lecee and Football Association of Zambia shared.

According to a statement shared by Lecce on their official Facebook page, the Zambian winger underwent several medical examinations while at the hospital.

The tests returned negative results, and Banda was discharged the following morning after doctors confirmed he was in stable condition.

Banda’s manager, Francis Malambo, also released an official statement reassuring supporters about the player’s health.

“I would like to inform the public that Lameck Banda is in good condition and the situation concerning him is not serious. He has been attended to and is currently doing well. We appreciate the concern shown by the public, supporters, and the football community,” Malambo wrote. .

National team manager Charles Kalala, who spoke directly with the player also assured the country that Banda is stable and recovering well.

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) head of media and communications, Nkweto Tembwe, said the association is closely monitoring the situation and will provide a comprehensive update once doctors share further details on Banda’s condition.

Banda, one of Zambia’s most prominent players in European football, has become an important attacking option for Lecce since joining the Italian club.

As of March 2026, Banda has scored seven goals for U.S. Lecce across all competitions since joining the club in 2022.

He is currently having his most productive season in Italy, having already netted 3 goals in Serie A for the 2025-26 campaign.

Meanwhile, Napoli beat Banda’s side 2-1 and are now locked in third position of the serie A, while Lecce is on number 16.
