CHIPOLOPOLO midfield star Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba, famously known as Kemuka, has finally returned home and rejoined Zesco United Football Club after a dramatic few months that saw him evacuated from war-stricken Libya.
The 28-year-old, who had been plying his trade with Al-Madina SC in the Libyan Premier League, has signed a two-year contract with Zesco United ahead of the 2025/26 MTN Super League and CAF Confederation Cup season.
The midfielder had been playing for Al-Madina SC in the Libyan Premier League until May this year, when violent clashes erupted in the southern parts of Tripoli, forcing the Zambian government to step in and facilitate his safe return home.
The Kitwe-born midfielder had earlier moved to Libya in search of new challenges, but his stay was cut short due to the escalating violence, forcing him to request evacuation.
Now, he is back at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, ready to reignite his career at ZESCO United, a club he previously starred for with midfield brilliance.
ZESCO United confirmed Kampamba’s signing alongside three other players which includes defender Kabaso Chongo from Kabwe Warriors, Nigerian striker Alaekwe Chijioke from Akwa United, and winger Ifoni Pepo from Oman’s Sur SC.
All four players penned two-year deals.
“The club welcomes Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba, a 28-year-old Zambian international midfielder who rejoins Zesco United from Al-Madina SC of Libya, bringing his wealth of experience to the team on a two-year contract,” Zesco United spokesperson Verita Muyunda said in a statement.
Kampamba’s comeback has been met with excitement among Zesco United fans, who hope his return will spark the club’s revival in both local and continental competitions after a challenging season last year.
