Chipasula’s WAfCON debut impresses Coach Norah

COPPER Queens head coach Nora Hauptle has expressed confidence in teenage winger Mercy Chipasula, following her impressive senior debut during the Copper Queens’ narrow 1-0 victory over the DR Congo at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAfCON).

Chipasula, the reigning 2024 National Sportswoman of the Year and skipper of the U-20 Women’s National Team, was handed her first start for the senior side After sitting quietly on the bench during Zambia’s first two group matches and wasted no time making her presence felt.

Speaking during the post-match press conference, Hauptle hailed Chipasula’s performance, describing her as one of Zambia’s most promising young talents.

“She made her first appearance in a senior tournament. I think she did it very well,” Hauptle said.

At just 18, the skillful forward already carries the confidence of a veteran and the ambition of a champion.

The young winger, who is now well-known for her confident footwork and fearless approach, impressed fans with her pace and creativity on the right flank.

Zambia finished second in Group A with seven points, tied with group leaders Morocco but separated by goal difference.

The result means the Copper Queens will face the winners of Group B in the quarterfinals.
