Women now active participants in GBV – Nalumango

VICE president Mutale Nalumango has expressed grave concern at the troubling revelation that most women, who were once seen as victims of Gender-Based Violence (GBV), have now become active participants in it’s perpetration within their own households.

Speaking at the Army Ladies Association of Zambia Gala Dinner in Lusaka last evening, Nalumango urged women to break free from the vicious cycle of GBV by resolutely condemning its presence in their lives.

Nalumango highlighted the urgent need for a united front against this rampant vice.

She noted the vital role that women hold in shaping Zambian society and driving the country’s development.

“Women are the backbone of our society and we have a profound influence on the moral fabric of our nation, and our voices carry tremendous power to effect positive change. It is time for us to use that power to challenge the scourge of GBV and to build a society that values the rights and dignity of all women,” she proclaimed.

The Vice President commended the Army Ladies Association of Zambia (ALAZ) for their ongoing efforts online improving the welfare of children with special needs in military aided schools.

She added that ALAZ’s initiatives are perfectly aligned with government’s dedication to improving education, healthcare and opportunity for all Zambians.

Additionally, Nalumango also seized the opportunity to underscore the importance of proactive screening for cancer among women and men.

Reminding women of the critical need for regular screening for breast and cervical cancer, Nalumango underscored the need to prioritise one’s health by ensuring they undergo regular screenings, as early detection is key to survival.

“Men should not neglect their health either because prostate cancer is a serious concern that should not be ignored,” she added.

ALAZ patron Gina Zyeele reaffirmed the association’s objective of channeling the proceeds from the fundraising dinner event towards enhancing the lives of children with special needs in army schools.

Zyeele declared that ALAZ’s mission transcends the confines of the military and strives to create a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable children with disabilities in the community.
