Tonse Alliance orders mouthy members to shut up and mourn Lungu in peace

THE Tonse Alliance has ordered its members to stop wrangling in the media and focus on mourning their late chairman, former president Edgar Lungu.

Over the past few days, Zambians have been treated to a political drama between members of the opposition alliance, with some party officials washing their dirty linen on radio, Facebook and other social media platforms.

But in a statement issued today, the alliance’s official mouthpiece Sean Tembo said ‘enough is enough’ and urged alliance members to shut their political mouths and respect the values of the coalition.

Tembo, who also leads the Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP), described the public squabbles as childish and embarrassing, saying they go against what the alliance stands for.

“The Alliance would like to assert that the conduct of washing dirty linen in public is contrary to the values and principles of the Tonse Alliance,” he stated.

Tembo admitted that there have been disagreements over how to interpret their alliance constitution but stated that those issues are being handled behind closed doors.

To restore order and unity, the Tonse Alliance has since issued a directive barring all members from issuing any public statements on internal matters of the alliance, warning that any member who continues to air internal matters in public will face disciplinary action.

Meanwhile, the alliance says it is preparing to elect new leadership after the burial of its chairperson, former president Edgar Lungu.
