SOUTH African based PF presidential aspirant, Joseph Mudolo, has thrown his weight behind party acting president Given Lubinda’s decision to remove Davies Mwila and five other members of the party’s Management and Coordination Committee (MCC).
Last Friday around 22:40 hours, Lubinda in his capacity as PF acting president made reshuffles in the party’s central committee in which he fired former secretary general Davies Mwila, Lundazi MP Brenda Nyirenda, Lupososhi MP Musonda Mpankata.
Others were Milanzi MP Melesiana Phiri, Northern Province chairperson Chomba Chipili, Lusaka Province chairperson Christopher Shakafuswa and central committee members representing Western and North-Western provinces, Tombi Tombi and Abuild Kawangu.
In a statement, Mudolo said that Lubinda acted within his powers under the PF Constitution, dismissing suggestions by some party members that the decision could be ignored.
He explained that even amidst court injunctions, the rule of law must guide the party.
“The truth is that we neither control the party nor can we behave as though the court injunction does not exist. Doing so would be a clear violation of the rule of law,” Mudolo said.
The south Africa based business man vying for PF presidency suggested that traditional leaders from Mafinga District particularly summon their Member of Parliament Robert Chabinga, to help resolve the internal impasse.
Mudolo warned that proceeding with the party convention while court orders are still in force would be illegal and a breach of due process.
The PF has been grappling with growing divisions as factions dispute Lubinda’s authority and the interpretation of Articles 51 and 61(j) of the party constitution.
