MONZE Central aspiring member of parliament Victor Cheelo has hailed the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security for the introduction of an online passport application system.
On Thursday, Home Affairs and Internal Security minister Jack Mwiimbu announced that that by the end of October, Zambians will be able to apply for passports from home, track the process, pay online and receive their documents without physically visiting an immigration office.
Cheelo said the reform will make life easier for many ordinary Zambians, especially those who previously had to travel long distances and spend days in queues to process their documents.
“This is what leadership should look like, anticipating problems and solving them before they grow bigger. For years, citizens have been frustrated by long queues, unnecessary costs and wasted time just to obtain a passport. With this new system, people will have their time back. I wish to commend honourable Mwiimbu and his ministry for this initiative,” said Cheelo.
He stated that digitalising services is not just about convenience but also about creating efficiency and transparency in public institutions, something he says Zambians have long demanded.
Cheelo noted that digital reforms such as the online passport system can also inspire young people to embrace technology and see it as a tool for development.
“Monze is full of brilliant young minds, and when they see government moving in this digital direction, they too are encouraged to think innovatively in their own fields,” he said.
