CHAIRPERSON for the Local government service commission Ackson Sejani has died.
Sejani’s passing occurred at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa yesterday at around 12:00 hours, following an illness.
The distinguished civil servant was 67-years-old at the time of his death.
Senjani, a well-respected leader in the country’s civil service was widely known for his dedication to improving the quality of local government services.
Before taking his chairmanship of the Local Government Service Commission, Senjani enjoyed a distinguished career in politics, serving as Member of Parliament for Mapatizya constituency from 1991 to 2011.
His dedication to public service was further exemplified by his appointments to various cabinet positions, such as Minister of Local Government and Housing from 1991 to 2001 and Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries from 1997 to 1999 under the late President, Fredrick Chiluba’s administration.
Throughout these roles, Sejani championed various causes aimed at improving the lives of Zambian citizens, leaving an indelible mark on the country’s political landscape.
He was still actively serving in the distinguished position of chairperson of the Local Government Service Commission at the time of his passing.
Government through the Secretary to cabinet Patrick Kangwa announced Sejani’s demise in a statement.
“The funeral gathering is being held at Vorna Valley, Meanwood Ndeke, Chongwe District.”
Government further pledged to support the family of the late Sejani during this time of immense loss, working closely with them to ensure that the funeral arrangements are conducted in a manner befitting of the esteemed public servant.
