ATTORNEY General Mulilo Kabesha has called on Zambians to continue praying for the late former president Edgar Lungu’s family.
Giving an update on the late former president’s burial case in the South African High Court in Pretoria, Kabesha said Zambia was still mourning its former president and would only rest when he is buried back home.
He said Zambians should love and embrace one another during the country’s trying moments.
Lungu, died exactly two two months ago today while undergoing surgery at a clinic in Pretoria and his funeral has sparked interest worldwide over his burial. .
The Zambian government is seeking to repatriate Lungu’s remains for a State funeral in the country, he once ruled, while the Lungu family prefers a private burial in South Africa.
“Let’s mourn former Edgar Lungu in peace and love. We are a Christians Nation, don’t hate anyone. It is unfortunate that we are not preaching the word of God. The bible says love one another, and it says forgive one another. At one time Jesus Christ was being asked by the disciples ‘Teach us how to pray’ and he said ‘when you are praying, say Our Father in heaven, forgive our trespasses as we forgive all those who trespass against us’,” said Kebesha.
“Now, sometimes we pray for the dead people that God should forgive them but if you want to give the impression that God, the dead people have not forgiven others, so how do they get forgiven? Because the bible says forgive first before you can be forgiven.”
He insisted that the late former president deserves a decent and befitting burial with a guard of honour at the Presidential Memorial Embassy Park in Lusaka.
“I want to encourage Zambians, lets continue praying for the Lungu family, lets continue embracing one another as we mourn and we pray that may the Court allow us to give [Former] president Edgar Lungu a decent and a befitting burial [back home] at Presidential Memorial Embassy Park,” said Kabesha.
