Hichilema appoints former Army commander Alibuzwi to Brazilian diplomatic post

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has appointed Lieutenant General Sitali Dennis Alibuzwi, the immediate past Commander of the Zambian Army, as Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary to the Federal Republic of Brazil.

According to a statement issued by Clayson Hamasaka, the Chief Communications Specialist at State House, this appointment, along with others, was made in accordance with Article 92(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Zambia and announced in a press release from State House on July 22, 2025.

Lieutenant General Alibuzwi served as the Commander of the Zambian Army from August 29, 2021, until his contract was not renewed on September 12, 2024, when he was replaced by Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele.

Before his tenure as Army Commander, he was the Deputy Commander of the Zambian Army from January 2019.

Further appointments announced by President Hichilema include; Shadreck Mbewe as Commissioner of Lands, Brigadier General Wilson C. Tembo as Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary to Zimbabwe, and Mahuba Wesley Hazemba as Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary to the State of Israel.

President Hichilema extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the appointees, wishing them success and God’s blessings as they embark on their new responsibilities.
