Chabinga advises PF presidential aspirants to get their K200,000 nomination fees back

PATRIOTIC Front (PF) president Robert Chabinga has told all party presidential aspirants who paid K200,000 for the planned party convention to go and get their money back, saying the convention is illegal and sanctioned by people who have no authority in the PF.

Addressing journalists in Lusaka yesterday, Chabinga said the so-called convention being pushed by rival PF groups was nothing but a money-making scheme disguised as party business.

He accused some members of the party of using the name of the late Edgar Lungu to enrich themselves.

The Mafinga lawmaker said it was embarrassing that the former ruling party had been turned into a stage for endless confusion since Lungu’s death.

He added that some individuals had been flying in and out of South Africa claiming to be anointed successors while collecting money from desperate aspirants.

He said the PF constitution was clear on who can call for a convention and insisted that only the legitimate leadership under him has that authority.

Those who collected money from aspirants, he said, had done so illegally and must refund the money immediately.

“They started selling themselves as presidential candidates, they collected the first 200,000s and ate that money,” Chabinga said.

“I want to state very clearly that there is only one legitimate PF, where I am the acting president and Mr. Morgan [Ng’ona] is my secretary general.”

Chabinga warned that some individuals posing as PF leaders would soon face contempt charges for defying court orders and misleading the public about party activities.

On Wednesday, an injunction was granted to the Chabinga led camp by the Kabwe High Court to stop the Given Lubinda camp from holding its anticipated convention later this month.

Candidates that have filed for nominations and are gearing for the halted convention include Makebi Zulu, Willah Mudolo, Brian Mundubile, Greyford Monde, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, Emmanuel Mwamba, Miles Sampa, Mutotwe Kafwaya, Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, Chishimba Kambwili and Goodward Mulubwa.
